Hopefully by sharing my memories of my
earlier years in the part of Wilmington, North Carolina that was once know as simply East
Wilmington you will have some idea of what it was really like growing up in the
South during the 1950s and early 1960s. The area covered both incorporated and
unincorporated parts of Wilmington. Roughly most area east and north of Burt Mill Creek, West of Kerr Avenue,
south of Princess Place Drive and west of Wrightsville Avenue. Of course inside
this area were places such as Spofford Mills, Forest Hills, Devon Park, Garden
City, Fox Town, parts of Winter Park, etc.
that may not want to admit they were park of East Wilmington.
As my friend Jim "The Stoof Driver" Shaw says, " So
many stories, so little time ".
If you have a story you would like to share with us about this
era and location, email it to me at so@nasgi.net and I will put it on the site
for you.
These stories are from memory so in some cases they may not
be completely factual, but my intention is to be as accurate as 50 year old
memories can be.
